Election 2012 Online Organizing Director

With over six million members, MoveOn.org Political Action is uniquely situated to organize for real progressive change. Over the course of the last year we've seen and been part of a growing wave of populist organizing for economic equality—the 99% movement. We've build nationwide solidarity for the populist revolt and recalls in Wisconsin, supported Occupations across the country, and helped lead fights against congressional efforts to benefit the 1%.

Now, to win real change, we need to transform that energy into power through electoral wins in 2012. To do that, we'll find and promote candidates who'll really support the 99%, then help the best candidates win, especially in primaries. We'll support progressive federal candidates and, for the first time, state and local candidates. That will require striking out into uncharted territory with new organizing models, technologies, experiments, and partnerships. We're hiring a new Election Online Organizing Director to help make it happen.

Position Overview: As an Online Organizing Director on our Election 2012 team, you will be responsible for one or more of the major segments of our election program, such as mobilizing volunteers in a small number of marquee progressive races, or developing innovative ways to scalably help hundreds of candidates who will fight for the 99%. You will coordinate with allies in the progressive community, design the strategy and tactics, and then execute all aspects of the project—from designing online systems to testing subject lines.

You will need to be adept and creative at organizing and mobilizing folks to make a difference. You'll need to be able to turn on a dime, so when there's a new idea on Monday afternoon, you can test, evaluate and implement it Tuesday before noon. Perhaps most importantly, you'll need a track record of starting or running big, bold things — things that prove you've got the entrepreneurial spirit to help MoveOn's election program reach the next level.

Skills: To set our online organizers up for success, we have identified three critical skill-sets necessary to excel in this role—roughly grouped into Scalable Organizing skills, Technology, and Communications. Strong candidates will be skilled in all three areas. But we also encourage candidates to apply who don't have deep expertise in all three areas, but have exceptional skills in one or two areas, and the hunger and aptitude to learn the other areas quickly.

a) Scalable Organizing

b) Technology c) Communications Work Environment: These are the qualities we've found help someone succeed on our team.

Location: Anywhere in the U.S.—MoveOn operates on a virtual office model, collaborating online.

Term and Salary: Position lasts until November 16, 2012. Salary is highly competitive and benefits include health and dental insurance and four weeks vacation per calendar year.
